TATAMI

2014 | Produced by Nanimarquina

Design by Ariadna Miquel + Nani Marquina | Photography by Albert Font

The image of the traditional Japanese straw tatami serves as inspiration for these handwoven rugs by blending jute and wool on a cotton warp. Jute provides some rigidity, structuring the rug in the sense of the weft. Wool gives it softness, relief and comfort. Both materials weaved combined, reveal their irregularities and nuances giving to the surface of the rug a subtle rhythm. Tatami natural fibres highlight their bright colours and blend perfectly with their neutral hues.
